Violins, Violas and Cellos
At Music City Cairns we love our violins!
Why Violins? Whether you are thinking to buy a violin for yourself or your child here are 7 reasons we believe violins are a great instrument to buy and begin learning now.
1. Violins are a friend to any style of music
Don’t get caught up thinking that violins are only for classical lovers. Whether you love listening to country, folk, classical, gypsy, jazz, electronica, even rock, your violin will have no trouble playing along AND sounding good. Other musicians love violins because once you develop your skills, you can accompany just about any band or any musician for a jam or more. Think about all the concerts, gigs or festivals you or your child will get invited along to for a chance to take your skills further.
2. Small and portable
Violins are super easy to transport and carry around with you. They don’t take up the whole space of the backseat like a cello and if you are flying with your “baby”, they are small enough to bring as carry on. Have a child? There’s no need to worry that your son or daughter is lugging around with a big, heavy piece of equipment they’d rather throw on the side of the road on the way home then walk another step.
3. Learn how to read music
This is one of the best gifts you can give yourself or someone you know, the ability to read sheets of music. If you follow the route of hiring a violin teacher for lessons, you will be taught how those black circle-like shapes with lines attached relate to what note to play on your violin. All orchestras, string ensembles, quartets require the ability to read sheet music. Another added benefit is should you or your child choose to move onto learning another instrument you won’t have to learn how to read music from scratch. It will be easy to pick up another instrument, say a cello, read a piece of paper filled with black circles and it won’t be long before you can transfer what you’ve learned onto that in no time.
4. Ready to play violin for under $200
Have you tried purchasing a new beginner flute, piano or cello for under $200? Enough said. Another added bonus is that most violins come with the full outfit. That means once you show up at your very first lesson or walk on stage or just quietly play your violin in your room you are already setup and ready to go. A violin outfit means the case, bow, rosin is included.
5. Charlie Chaplin was an amateur violinist
As far as quirky, cool, violinists you can’t go past Charlie Chaplin. The famous screen comedian Charlie Chaplin was an accomplished amateur violinist who composed many of the scores to his film. For inspiration watch The Vagabond.
6. Less likely to develop Alzheimer’s
If you haven’t heard already, research indicates that learning an instrument may help prevent Alzheimer’s disease. Both perceiving and creating music requires complex brain activity and learning violin strengthens those connections in your brain that are likely to deteriorate if you develop the disease. So basically, violin is great exercise for your brain, keeping your mind sharp for years to come.
7. Can be An attractive electric instruments and a great way to make friends
Forget the electric guitar, for both awesome-ness and wow points nothing goes past seeing an electric violin on stage. Violins can be setup with a little microphone that plugs into a sound system that allows you to alter the same kind of settings you would with an electric guitar or electric acoustic guitar. Add some guitar effect pedals and BAM, every musician will be wanting to recruit you into their band. Violins are born for playing with others.
